Child Specialist

Collaborative Divorce Child Specialist

What is Collaborative Divorce?

Collaborative divorce is a respectful, team-oriented approach that supports parents—and their children—through separation with less conflict and more care. A dedicated team, including Collaborative Family Law lawyers, a Financial Specialist, and Mental Health Professionals (Divorce Coaches and a Child Specialist), works together to guide informed decisions and help families navigate change as constructively as possible.

What is a Collaborative Divorce Child Specialist?

Collaborative Divorce BC explains that children are affected less by divorce itself and more by how it unfolds. In the collaborative process, a Child Specialist is a trained mental health professional who offers a neutral, child-focused perspective to help parents and the team make decisions that prioritize children’s best interests. My Role of a Child Specialist

As a Child Specialist, I work with families going through separation or divorce to help ensure that children’s voices are heard, and their needs are at the heart of the process. The information that is gathered from the children is useful in helping to create the parenting plan for parents moving forward.

I have deep respect for families who choose the Collaborative Process—it’s a brave and thoughtful step toward creating a healthy path forward. My role as a Child Specialist is not therapeutic, but rather a short-term, neutral role focused on giving children a safe way to share their experiences.

I help parents understand what their children may be feeling and needing during this time, and how those insights can guide family decisions in ways that support everyone’s well-being.
